Abstract
Purpose: To report our experiences in using a mini-PACS to archive volumetric datasets produced by multi-detector-row CT scanners.

Materials and Methods: We have installed a dedicated mini-PACS to archive the volumetric CT datasets in every clinical cases.

Results: In this system, the axial CT dataset of conventional thicker sections and standardized 3-dimensional images such as coronal (or sagittal) multiplanar reformation are distributed in the main PACS network, while the mini-PACS is exclusively used to archive and transfer the volumetric datasets. The volumetric dataset are routed to a relevant dedicated 3-dimensional postprocessing workstation, following predefined protocols.

Conclusion: Volumetric datasets produced by multi-detector-row CT scanners can be efficiently managed by using a mini-PACS.
